California Governor Doubles Number Of Troops Fighting Illegal Drugs At Southern Border

The California National Guard is set to significantly increase its troop deployment across the state to intensify efforts against illegal drug trafficking, including operations at southern border ports of entry, as per a recent announcement from the governor's office.

The expansion will see the Guard’s counter-drug task force grow from 155 to nearly 400 troops, according to a press release dated June 13.

“Our top priority is the safety of our communities statewide,” stated Gov. Gavin Newsom. “By working with state, local, and federal partners to take down transnational organizations and the illegal drugs they attempt to bring into our state, the state’s Counter Drug Taskforce is making a profound difference to hold smugglers accountable and take deadly drugs off our streets.”
