Panama Canal Remains Troubled Due to Water Shortages

The Panama Canal Authority recently announced, “The waterway continues to face the impact of a prolonged dry season from this past year that limited the capacity of daily passages through the canal.”

While there have been some rain to help alleviate the restrictions that were in place since last year’s drought, there are still water shortages that are leading to worry.

The Panama Canal operates with rainwater, unlike other canals in the world. Due to El Nino and other problems, the area hasn’t gotten sufficient rain. Currently, experts are exploring alternative water sources as well as water storage solutions.
