Autonomous Vehicle Involved In Accident With Pedestrian Who Ignored Traffic Laws - And People Are Siding With The Car Maker!

In yet another example of human error causing problems for innovative technologies, a self-driving ride-sharing car operated by Chinese tech behemoth Baidu struck a pedestrian who failed to follow basic traffic rules in Wuhan, China, over the weekend.

According to Baidu, in a statement released to local press outlets, their autonomous vehicle did everything right—proceeding through the intersection only after receiving clearance from the traffic signal. Unfortunately, this reckless individual chose not to respect the red light and stepped into harm's way, resulting in what can be described at worst as minor physical contact between themselves and the slow-moving automobile.

Baidu continues pushing forward aggressively within China's burgeoning autonomous mobility sector, boasting some 300 units operational throughout Wuhan alone. It’s only a matter of time before we see these same vehicles (and problems) in the US.
