There’s a COVID Summer Spike to Be Aware Of

As students head back into classrooms, health experts warn parents about a concerning surge in COVID-19 infections throughout the US during what's supposed to be a relaxing summer break.

According to recent reports by University Health, there were 336 confirmed coronavirus cases recorded just three weeks ago in San Antonio, marking over a hundred case jump compared to the preceding seven-day period.

Jason Bowling, Chief Epidemiologist at University Health, confirms our worst fears when stating bluntly, "We're witnessing an uptick in COVID instances this season." He attributes part of his team's difficulty tracking trends due to insufficient mandated reporting mechanisms saying it has proven quite difficult given how little information becomes available, adding further, “It's been somewhat tough mainly because we simply lack sufficient statistics.”

The current rise marks perhaps the initial significant resurgence following revised quarantine protocols introduced earlier in March 2024, according to federal authorities (Centers For Disease And Prevention). It’s not just in Texas, either. It’s being seen in a number of heavily populated states, including California, Washington, Florida, and others.
