Taliban’s Brilliant Plan to Bargain Women’s Rights for Aid Is as Sick as It Sounds

Initially, there was a naive hope or belief by some that the Taliban might adopt a more moderate stance towards women's rights, but this has proven to be unfounded. 

Instead, the Taliban has systematically dismantled women's rights, reverting to oppressive policies that restrict women's freedoms and roles in society. The mention of the military parade with U.S. equipment underscores the irony and perhaps the naivety of international expectations regarding the Taliban's governance and their treatment of women, highlighting a return to, or even an intensification of, repressive measures against women, contrary to any promises of moderation.

Schools are still off-limits to girls. And doubling down, many women are silenced. Even laughter isn’t allowed.
