The first-ever women’s golf tournament was held in 1867 in Musselburgh, Scotland, at the Musselburgh Links golf course.
In 1971, astronaut Alan Shepard famously hit a golf ball on the moon during the Apollo 14 mission. The ball reportedly flew "miles and miles."
The standard 18-hole course became official in 1764 at St. Andrews in Scotland when the original 22-hole course was reduced.
The first official major championship was the Open Championship (British Open), first held in 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland.
